He didn't believe it could work that changes him into her, not only physically, but mentally. So he was the first to go. When Matt was done , physically then was much of Matt as a guy, now Mattie was a perfect figure of girl hood, but she had little skills so she becomes a maid, So Mattie in part is still she still hate the fact that she is a girl now. But the mental mapping is slowly rewriting to more a female mind.
